del.icio.us daily blog post settings for WordPress.com users
Hey, folks! Well, things just got a lot more bloggy up in this piece. As many of you know, I spend way too much time trolling the internets. In fact, I hardly watch TV or read actual printed publications much anymore…Anyway, now you can basically read over my shoulder — I’ve finally got my daily selection of del.icio.us links setup to appear here. If you want to figure out how to do this yourself, here are the instructions:
Go to your del.icio.us user page, choose ’settings,’ then ‘daily blog post’ from the menu on the right. Then click ‘add a new thingy.’]
job_name: WordPressdailypost (or whatever)
out_name: WordPress.com blog username
out_pass: WordPress.com blog password
out_url: http://[your subdomain here].wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php
out_time: What hour (Greenwich Mean Time) you want to post (mine’s 18 for six oclock GMT)
out_blog_id: 1
out_cat_id: Go to the ‘Manage’ panel of your dashboard, choose ‘Categories,’ and choose the number to the left of the category you want the posts to appear for (I created a new one just for del.icio.us links so I can have a single category archive page with my history).
If everything is set up correctly, a post will appear with links you bookmarked that day, along with the text you entered like so. And your settings page will display the following:
results:Running at Fri Oct 7 18:19:43 2005 GMT Fetched 1 items. metaWeblog.newPost postid was: 14

Thx man i have been trying to figure this out!! Now if wordpress.com will stop acting crazy
Thanks for the tip. So doing so will post my del.icio.us links for the current day? I set this up over the weekend but nothing has been posted to my wordpress.com account. I’m not sure if it’s because of the glitchy wp.com service this weekend, or if it’s because I’m not doing something right in del.icio.us. I set everything up correctly. I’m assuming everything should be automatic correct?
It should all be automatic. I seem to have lost my links for 10/8, so yeah, I think if there’s a server timeout or DNS problem at the moment del.icio.us contacts the xmlrpc.php url, you’re out of luck. You may want to check the ‘results’ of the last ping from del.icio.us on the daily blog post settings page. Should read something like what I have posted.
The four key values are the username, password, xmlrpc.php url and the blogid. Everything else is up to your preference.
Got it working. Thanks. Now if there was only a way to format the appearance of the linklog.
Hmmmm…looking into the source code…
There’s divs, but no classes associated with those divs. And since we can’t edit our themes (though we could make one that was compliant and upload for consideration or an update to current), it looks like we’re SOL.
You could probably do it on a self-hosted wordpress account. I bet if someone volunteer a patch to del.icio.us that allowed one to edit the XML template it wouldn’t be turned down.
