So I figured rather than writing a production diary, I’d videoblog it. Why not? And of course, there’s no problem you can’t throw a wiki at. So I’ve got a production wiki. It’s private for now, but if you’re interested in helping or offering feedback, email me for the password.

I feel like I’ve been kind of ranty of late, even though I’m in an otherwise good mood. Maybe I’m just outside my comfort zone. Like, oh, 3,000 miles outside my comfort zone (though comfortably in another modern city state, at least). I’m holed up in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn today enjoying a midweek day without classes and getting some work done. Dropped a swank suit from the Salvation Army off at the tailor across the street for alterations, tried the local pizza place, bought a Daily News, that kind of thing.

The office in Brooklyn.
One of the things that’s freaked me out is re-integrating with a massive institution. Going back to NYU has certainly felt familiar, and besides a late turn and near freakout leaving me late to my first class, the only thing that’s really shocked me is how little has changed in ten years. And when I mean how little, I mean recognizing everyone from the woman at the computer lab I used to work for ten years ago, security guards, random people in Brooklyn bodegas and almost every name as I walked past the faculty offices.
It’s also geeky stuff like how everything is still on paper in class, and how I’ll be shooting on actual film. I just downloaded the J. School’s ethics pledge. Of course, it’s a Word Document and I have to print it out and bring it to my 8:00am recitation in the morning. Can’t I just read it online, wave my hand over a JPG of the bible and swear into the built in microphone or something? It’s not the ethics I have a problem with, mind you, but Microsoft Word.
I’m certainly not in techno-Kansas anymore.
